Sony Confirms PS4 System Software 5.0 Details

We recently reported about some of the new features that might be included in the next major software update for the PlayStation 4. Sony today confirmed the PS4 system software version 5.0. Codenamed NOBUNAGA, it’s out today for those who were selected to be a beta tester for the next major PS4 system update.

One of the biggest features included in this update is Family Accounts. The current master/sub-account system is being redesigned to make it more family friendly.

The new “family on PSN” feature will enable users to set up PSN accounts for children and customize parental control settings for each user. All controls can be individually controlled for each child account.

Sony is adding a new “Custom Lists” tab on the Friends screen in place of the existing “Favorite Groups” tab. This will enable PS4 owners to create and edit custom list of friends and arrange them into specific grounds based on the games they play or the people they like to play games with online.

As previously reported, PlayStation 4 system software update version 5.0 brings the ability to stream gameplay in 1080p at 60 frames-per-second via Twitch to PlayStation 4 Pro owners. Sony has finally added a new setting which enables users to disable pop-up notifications when they’re watching a movie or TV show on their console. This has remained a pain point for users and it’s good that Sony has finally addressed it.

All this and more will be included in the full system software release for the PlayStation 4 which will take place in a couple of months.
