Note that the interview was done in Japanese which means that something could be lost in translation, however this is not the first time that we have heard about Nikon’s plans to improve on its mirrorless lineup. Back in July an interview with Nikon President Kazuo Ushida revealed the company’s plans to make a mirrorless system that will be able to beat the competition.
Ushida was quoted back then as saying, “With generations grew up on smart phones I will give out a “Nikonashii” mirrorless camera that made a difference to other companies in terms of performance. I want to overwhelm the performance of the lens by making use of industrial lens technology, but also need playfulness.”
We’re not sure what kind of system this will result in, but there have been rumors to suggest that Nikon could be thinking of launching a full-frame mirrorless system similar to what companies such as Sony has done. There’s no word on when that will take place, but we’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled.
