As our TVs and monitors are starting to become 4K compatible, it also means that the content we consume needs to be 4K ready, which is why many cameras and smartphones these days are allowing users to capture video in 4K resolution. Now Apple’s iPhone has been capable of doing that, but the iPhone 8 will bring about some improvements.

According to a report from iHelp BR (via 9to5Mac), they have found some code which seems to confirm that the iPhone 8’s cameras will be capable of capturing video in 4K at 60fps. Prior to this, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were only capable of capturing it at 30fps, so the bump to 60fps will no doubt be much welcome as it will offer up smoother frame rates.

Interestingly enough, the code also seems to suggest that the iPhone 8’s front cameras will be just as capable, as the code mentions “front” and “back” identifiers, suggesting that front cameras might be able to capture video in 4K as well. It will be interesting to see such a powerful front-facing camera on the iPhone, especially since the built-in webcam on the MacBooks have always been a point of contention due to its low megapixel count and resolution.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, and while the code might seem like it’s pretty strong evidence, we won’t know 100% for sure until Apple actually announces it, which hopefully will be taking place next month.
