For augmented reality and facial recognition, we have heard the rumors that Apple will be relying on cameras with 3D capabilities, and now thanks to a photo posted onto Slashleaks (via 9to5Mac), the alleged 3D camera module has made its way online. Of course there’s no way to tell that this module belongs to the iPhone 8, or what kind of device it could be used for, so take it with a grain of salt.
However like we said, the rumors are suggesting that 3D cameras could be used for some of the new iPhone features, so if those rumors are true, then this particular component makes sense. A recent report by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that Apple’s facial scanning tech is said to be years ahead of the competition, and that it will work in millionths of a second.
We’ve also heard reports that suggest the tech could work even when the phone is lying flat on the table, meaning that users won’t have to keep picking it up in order to unlock it.
