Instagram provided its users with the ability to upload albums earlier this year. It finally brought this feature to all users after limiting it to advertisers for over two years. Instagram today announced that it’s improving the album feature by enabling users to upload photos in the format of their choosing.
While it has been possible to publish multiple photos as part of a single post, users were only allowed to post square-format photos as was the case with the Instagram of years past.
That changes starting today. Instagram is now allowing users to post portrait and landscape photos in the album. It will no longer crop those photos down to a square when the album is published in a single post.
There seems to be one caveat, though. Users have to decide which format they’re going to use for the album and then stick with it. One album can’t have portrait and landscape photos. It can only have one format in it, either portrait or landscape.
It’s a minor detail but nevertheless, it’s an important one. Instagram is still capping the maximum number of photos in an album to 10. The change has been rolled out today so you can fire up the Instagram app on your handset right now and check it out.
