In the photo above which was allegedly taken at Foxconn, it seems to suggest that Apple’s iPhone 8 could be packing a rear-facing Touch ID scanner. This is actually not the first time that a rear-facing Touch ID scanner has been brought up, but recent reports, rumors, and leaks have all suggested that won’t be the case, but then again since nothing can be confirmed, it’s hard to say who is right.
According to recent rumors, Apple has apparently given up trying to embed Touch ID into the display of the iPhone 8. It is unclear what that is, but the word on the street is that Apple could instead turn to the use of facial recognition as its new method of biometric security. However the question is whether or not the feature is reliable, especially when you consider that facial recognition systems in the past have been easily beaten by using photos.
However Apple’s facial recognition system is supposed to be more robust and can apparently be used even if the phone is lying flat, as opposed to having to raise it to the user’s face whenever they want to unlock it.
