Facebook has cloned several Snapchat features for its services with Stories being chief among them. Instagram Stories actually has more daily users now than Snapchat’s entire user base combined. The same feature has also been expanded to WhatsApp and Facebook proper. While it was previously available to users on mobile only, Facebook has now confirmed that it’s testing Stories for desktop users.
The Facebook Stories feature is placed at the very top of the page in the mobile app but that’s not going to be the case with the web version. Desktop users will find Facebook Stories on the right side of the window where it’s not going to be as intrusive.
The feature itself is quite similar to Snapchat Stories. Users can post photos and videos to their Story throughout the day. All content is visible for 24 hours before it disappears for good automatically.
Facebook has confirmed that Stories is being rolled out to desktop users. However, the company is quick to point out that it’s still considering this rollout as a test at this point in time but notes that it’s going to be widely rolled out soon.
It remains to be seen if bringing Stories to the desktop is going to have an impact on the usage numbers for this feature. Stories has been a hit on Instagram but not so much on Facebook proper. It will be interesting to see if this latest move helps in that regard.
