It has been rumored repeatedly this year that Nest, owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, is going to release a cheaper version of its popular thermostat. Nest is also reportedly going to launch more smart products this year, including a smart doorbell and a home security system. While more information about the new products is yet to surface, a new leak reveals the possibility that the new Nest Thermostat could actually get a complete redesign.
Nest originally launched its thermostat back in 2011. Even though the connected device is in its third generation now, the design has largely remained the same.
The leak which suggests that the new Nest thermostat could get a complete redesign comes from @evleaks who has a good track record with these things. The leak shows that while the Nest Thermostat is going to retain its circular shape, it’s going to have a white ring and screen.
It’s already possible to buy a Nest Thermostat with a copper, black, white, or silver ring right now but the new thermostat seems to have received a full redesign. The glass display that has always been on the thermostat will likely be replaced by plastic.
No word as yet on when Nest is going to launch its new thermostat. Previous reports have suggested that the new Nest Thermostat is going to cost under $200.
