Over in China it seems that Apple is indeed making such a concession as they have started to allow users in China to use WeChat Pay as a method of payment when it comes to purchases in the App Store and also for Apple Music subscription. This means that users in China who might not prefer to use Apple Pay will now have an alternative to their payment method.
In a statement made to China Money Network, the Cupertino company was quoted as saying, “We are glad to offer users in mainland China the option of WeChat Pay for their favorite mobile app or Apple Music products. We continue to be dedicated to providing multiple simple and convenient payment methods for customers within the Apple ecosystem.”
As it stands WeChat is one of the more popular messaging apps used in China and parts of Asia. The app is more than just a messenger as it has allowed users to do all kinds of activities such as booking doctor appointments, purchasing real estate, requesting for spiritual services, taking out personal loans, and so on, so it is understandable that by allowing WeChat Pay to be used as an alternative, Apple is hoping to encourage more Chinese users onto its platform.
