According to the updated policy, it reads, “All products purchased at Apple Store in Hong Kong cannot be returned or exchanged. Exceptions for exchange will be allowed for defective products only.” However this only applies to products purchased on and after the 15th of August, so if you purchased it before then you should be safe.
Apple did not provide a reason why they have instituted these changes, but like we said, it could be because of scalpers and with the launch of the new iPhone 8, this policy should help to address that. Note that this is not the first time that Apple Hong Kong has instituted these changes. Similar changes were made last year ahead of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, so we guess this move shouldn’t be that surprising.
It is unclear how long this updated policy will stay in effect, or if it will be changed permanently (in which we’re sure that Hong Kong shoppers won’t be too pleased), but that’s the way it’s going to be for the foreseeable future.
