Apple Has Apparently Given Up Trying To Put Touch ID Under The iPhone 8’s Display

One of the hot rumors of the iPhone 8 is that Apple will apparently ditch the physical home button while at the same time introducing a new way of using Touch ID, which is by embedding the scanner in the display of the phone itself. However it seems that Apple’s plans have since been cancelled.

In a note to investors obtained by AppleInsider, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Apple has cancelled their plans to embed the fingerprint under the display of the iPhone 8. Kuo doesn’t state if Apple has abandoned their plans completely, but it seems that an embedded Touch ID has been left off his list of standout iPhone 8 features.

This begs the question of, where will Touch ID go if Apple is indeed going with a full screen display? Some reports have suggested that it could be embedded into the power button of the phone, while earlier rumors have suggested placing it on the back. Some have even suggested that facial scanning could replace Touch ID, but we’re not sure if Apple will be so quick to abandon the feature, especially only having recently introduced it to the MacBook Pro.

The reason for abandoning the feature is unclear, but we have also heard reports that other companies such as Samsung have been having issues getting it to work. In the meantime it seems that Vivo has beaten the competition to the punch.
