Windows 10 Updates For Atom PCs Ruled Out By Microsoft

It was reported several days ago that users with PCs powered by Intel Atom Clover Trail processors were facing difficulties in trying to install Windows 10 Updates. They were basically unable to install the latest Windows 10 Creators Update. There was some confusion initially regarding this and many believed that Microsoft would sort this out and those users would be able to get the updates as they would have normally. However, Microsoft has now confirmed that it will not be releasing Windows 10 updates for devices powered by Intel Atom Clover Trail processors.

Most devices powered by Intel Atom Clover Trail processors were released in the Windows 8 era. All those users received a free upgrade to Windows 10 so that they could get on the latest iteration of the operating system as well. However, now that they’re on it, they won’t receive any more feature updates.

A spokesperson for Microsoft confirmed that these PCs require additional hardware support to provide the best possible experience on Windows 10 Creators Update.

“However, these systems are no longer supported by Intel (End of Interactive Support), and without the necessary driver support, they may be incapable of moving to the Windows 10 Creators Update without a potential performance impact,” the spokesperson added.

Microsoft has said that it’s going to offer those users the older Windows 10 Anniversary Update instead. The company will also provide them with security updates until January of 2023, as long as they’re running the Anniversary Update.
