Fans of the long-running British science fiction show have long been gripped with the following question: Who is the Thirteenth Doctor? The 12th Doctor Who is played by Peter Capaldi but the BBC confirmed several months back that once his run was over, it was going to pick out a new actor to play Doctor Who as is the norm with this series. The BBC has finally confirmed who is going to be the 13th Doctor.
Doctor Who is centered around the story of the Doctor who can travel through time and space in a time machine called the TARDIS. The time machine is shaped like the 1920s British police box. The Doctor has to save humanity by fighting monsters and aliens. The show has a five-decade history so it has clearly been a fan favorite for a very, very long time.
The BBC has confirmed that Jodie Whittaker is going to be filling Capaldi’s shoes. There were rumors that perhaps the BBC is going to pick a female this time around and that has turned out to be true.
Whittaker happens to be the first female actor to play Doctor Who. She is going to replace Capaldi in an upcoming Christmas special before she takes on the role in the complete 11th series of Doctor Who next year.
“It’s more than an honor to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait,” Whittaker said in an interview with the BBC.
