According to the folks at WABetaInfo, it seems that WhatsApp is testing out a feature that will allow users to play YouTube videos within the app itself. This is actually not a new feature as a few months back, WhatsApp rival Viber added inline YouTube video support so we guess it was only a matter of time that WhatsApp got the feature as well.
We can’t be sure if WhatsApp’s answer will be the same as Viber, but from what we can tell from the screenshots, it is more or less the same where clicking a YouTube video will allow it to play inside the app, as opposed to launching a separate app. There also appears to be picture-in-picture support, meaning even as the conversation scrolls the video will keep playing.
However it has been noted that switching conversations will stop the video. No word on when this feature is expected to go live, but it is a pretty nifty feature and hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.
