However as it turns out nostalgia could have been a compelling reason for gamers to play the game because according to Capcom, they are claiming that the game was actually a “smash hit”. The company’s earnings report reads, “Ultra Street Fighter II (for Nintendo Switch), which was released in May 2017, made an excellent start and proved to be a smash hit.”
Unfortunately Capcom did not dive into specifics like how many copies of the game was sold, so we have no idea what the company considers a “smash hit”, but either way we guess this is good news for Capcom and also pretty good news for Nintendo since having compelling games will also help to move console sales, like how The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had a pretty impressive attachment rate.
It is unclear if we will be getting more Street Fighter titles for the Switch in the future, but hopefully the good sales means that we can look forward to more Capcom content on the Switch in the future.
