It is a rather surprising announcement given that Apple is notorious for being closed off to third-party services, but we guess by giving users more options, they might be hoping to encourage them to spend. “PayPal customers will be able to pay for App Store, Apple Music, iTunes and iBooks purchases across iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices using their PayPal account. This provides a secure and versatile payment method to meet the growing demand for digital entertainment.”
However we should point out that the service isn’t fully live yet. According to PayPal’s announcement, it is only available in Canada and Mexico starting today, but there are plans to eventually roll it out to the US and other parts of the world in the future. In a way we suppose this is convenient especially for those who prefer to consolidate their purchases using one service. Details about the service and how to set it up (when it becomes available) can be found on PayPal’s website.
