This means that there is a good chance that you might have actually used it, and if you did own a MySpace account that you haven’t deleted yet, it seems that it is apparently pretty easy to steal. According to security expert Leigh-Anne Galloway (via Engadget), it seems that one could easily commandeer a MySpace account as long as they know your real name, user name, and birthday.
Galloway claims to have reached out to MySpace about this security issue back in April but has not received a response, but it seems that they did something about it anyway. According to a statement MySpace has since issued to Engadget, “In response to some recent concerns raised regarding Myspace user account reactivation, we have enhanced our process by adding an additional verification step to avoid improper access. We take data security very seriously at Myspace. We plan to continue to refine and improve this process over time.”
We’re not sure what the changes are, but either way if you do have an old MySpace account, perhaps it’s best to login to check that nothing has been compromised.
