Wireless charging is among the changes that Apple is expected to introduce with the new iPhone this year. If it does that, it would be the first iPhone to support this feature. Previous reports have suggested that Apple is going to ship a separate wireless charging accessory for the iPhone 8. Latest reports suggest that Apple is not going to have the accessory ready in time for the iPhone 8’s release this fall.
If that is the case, the feature would essentially be useless until the accessory is released. John Gruber, a credible source on all things Apple, has reiterated rumors that Apple is not going to bundle an inductive charger with the new iPhone this fall.
The company is reportedly going to sell the wireless charger as a separate product but it’s unclear how much the company will charge for it. Gruber also mentions that Apple is facing problems in implementing the wireless charging technology.
Gruber mentions that he isn’t sure if the delay is due to hardware or software and if Apple will be able to address the problem within the next three weeks. If it’s unable to do that, then the accessory will most likely be delayed.
Apple isn’t due to launch the new iPhones until September this year. That being said, it’s only a couple of months away, so if Apple doesn’t start locking things down now it may have to make customers wait for one of the most highly-anticipated features of the new iPhone.
