First Tesla Model 3 Production Car Due Friday

It has been a long wait for Tesla fans but they have something to look forward to later this week. Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk has announced that the first Tesla Model 3 production car is going to roll off the line this Friday. The company is organizing a handover party for the first 30 Model 3 customers later this month to mark the release of its first mass-market all-electric car.

The Model 3 is the car that’s going to bring Tesla’s electric car technology to the masses. Previous vehicles like the Model S and Model X have been too expensive with even the base models starting at over $70,000. The Model 3 is priced at $35,000 and that’s before federal and state incentives for buying a green car.

Musk confirmed that the company is going to handover the first 30 customers their Model 3 cars on June 28. Tesla is going to ramp up production exponentially in the coming months. It aims to manufacture 100 cars in August, 1,500 in September and eventually ramp up production to over 20,000 units per months by December this year.

Tesla will then ramp up Model 3 production significantly in 2018 as it aims to produce a combined total of 500,000 cars per year. Nevertheless, it’s going to be a long wait for the 400,000-plus customers who have already placed an order for the Model 3.
