It seems that anyone who owns a drone that weighs more than 250 grams will be required to register it with the government, and that it could also involve drone owners having to attend safety awareness courses. Given that one needs to learn the rules of the road before driving, we suppose it makes sense that drone owners should also be aware of how to fly their drones safely.
This is because in the past we have seen how some drone owners have used their drones to hinder the efforts of firefighters, or have used their drones to invade the privacy of people in their own property, so by introducing a registration program, it makes drone owners more accountable, and the lessons will help them learn how not to be a hindrance to others.
That being said we should point out that the FAA’s drone registration in the US has been put on hold. This is apparently due to the fact that apparently the FAA weren’t allowed to pass the ruling in the first place. No word on when the ruling in the UK will be passed, but the Department of Transport admits that they are still working on ironing out the kinks.
