If this sounds familiar to you, it is because last month, Sony Japan also announced that they will begin the production of vinyl recordings again. Like we said, it’s hard to ignore that vinyl recordings are starting to become popular again. Program Records will begin release 12-inch vinyls in both 140gm and 180gm weights, with plans to start producing 7-inch and 10-inch discs later in 2018.
According to the stats, or at least as far as UK sales are concerned, sales of vinyl records have reached an all-time high in 25 years. We have also started to see more companies produce newer turntable models that are sleeker in design to match today’s home aesthetics. We have also seen how many artists are also starting to release their records on vinyl, and how video game developers are also releasing soundtracks on vinyl.
Whether or not the revival of vinyl is merely a trend that will die down in a few years, or if it could be the start of something new (again) remains to be seen, but what do you guys think? Fad? Or is the recording format making a comeback?
