Atari is popular for its classic home gaming consoles but the company is now venturing into the world of wearable devices. Its first wearable device isn’t a band, activity tracker or smartwatch. It’s a hat. It’s a hat with speakers to be precise and Atari is calling it the Speakerhat. Full marks for the imaginative naming, I guess.
The Atari Speakerhat powered by Audiowear is the first product in the Atari Connected Life line. It’s just a baseball cap that has integrated speakers. Don’t confuse it with a cap that has headphones inside it. The Speakerhat has actual speakers in the bill of the cap.
It also features a microphone and Bluetooth support for connecting to devices. Atari is marketing the hat to a wide variety of potential customers, including fitness enthusiasts. Atari claims that customers will get a fundamentally new social audio experience with the Speakerhat.
It’s going to have a Multiplayer Mode which will enable multiple users to listen to a single audio stream over Bluetooth. Those users could go about this another way, you know, by just standing close to a speaker.
Atari is teaming up with collectibles organization NECA to launch a limited edition Blade Runner 2049 Speakerhat later this year in the fall.
No wonder as yet on when Atari is going to make the Speakerhat available for purchase and how much it’s going to cost.
