However given Apple and Samsung’s history, and the fact that Apple hates the idea of being overly dependent on one supplier, it doesn’t really surprise us to learn that Apple could be considering developing their own OLED technology. This is according to a report from DigiTimes that cites a ET News report that claims that Apple is investing in creating its own OLED technology in a bid to reduce their reliance on Samsung, although we should point out that LG is also rumored to be another OLED supplier for Apple.
While this will no doubt help Apple reduce their reliance, it could also help Apple better control their supply, and also lead to the company using their own technology for their other products, such as computers. That being said when it comes to creating their own displays, Apple seems to have given up on that front after having discontinued its Thunderbolt Cinema Display. Instead Apple has tasked LG to create displays for them.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Could you see Apple creating their own OLEd displays in the future?
