Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant can do so much more than what you can possibly imagine. Amazon calls its features “Skills,” and it has quite a few of them. Alexa can stream music, call you an Uber, check your bank balance, answer random questions, tell a joke, and more in response to your voice command. According to a new report, Alexa now has more than 15,000 of these skills in her repertoire.
It was first reported by Voicebot that Amazon Alexa now boasts 15,000 skills. This was later confirmed by Amazon itself, which mentioned that Alexa passed the 15,000 skills milestone on Friday last week.
The number of skills that Alexa has is growing rapidly. It was last confirmed back in February this year that it supported a total of 10,000 skills. It just four months it has seen a 50 percent increase in the number of skills that are supported.
Skills can also be described as voice apps and when you compare the numbers, Amazon is far ahead of its competition. Microsoft’s Cortana only has 65 of such apps or skills while the Google Assistant does slightly better with 378. None is close to Alexa and won’t be for quite some time.
It goes without saying that this list will continue to grow and Amazon will do its part to ensure that it retains the lead for as long as possible.
