Now clearly NVIDIA is a company that does more than just making GPUs, so together with Volvo and Autoliv, these companies are going to work on developing on a system for self-driving cars which will use AI for object recognition around the vehicle, anticipating threats, and being able to navigate the roads safely.
We know that Volvo has been working on self-driving cars for a while now. In fact earlier this year the company even put a real-life family into one of its self-driving cars as a test and demonstration to show how far along they’ve come. The company is currently anticipating that they will have almost fully autonomous cars for sale by 2021, although we guess this will also be largely dependent on the laws around the world and the various regulations that govern such vehicles.
Volvo is definitely not alone in their efforts as a bunch of other carmakers are also working on the technology. Heck, even Apple’s CEO Tim Cook recently confirmed that the company was working on similar technology as well, although it will be interesting to see who will be the first to the market with a fully autonomous vehicle.
