Responding to critics on Twitter who argued that the company’s Superchargers are powered by a coal electricity power plant, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk revealed that the company was already in the process of converting all of its Superchargers to be powered either by solar or battery power, and that the ultimate goal is to eventually disconnect them from the electricity grid entirely.
All Superchargers are being converted to solar/battery power. Over time, almost all will disconnect from the electricity grid.

Musk’s tweet reads, “All Superchargers are being converted to solar/battery power. Over time, almost all will disconnect from the electricity grid.” We’re not sure when exactly that will happen, but it’s reassuring to know that they are headed in that direction. It is no secret that Tesla is aiming to be as green as possible, with the company unveiling home solutions such as solar roof tiles that are designed to blend in with your home as opposed to sticking a solar panel on the roof that sticks out like a sore thumb.
