We have to admit that when the Nintendo Switch was launched, we were surprised that Mario was not among the launch titles. Instead the biggest name that was launched with the console was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which on hindsight was a pretty great choice as it did score fantastic reviews.
However Nintendo wasted no time in unveiling a Mario game in the form of Super Mario Odyssey earlier this year. No release date was mentioned at the time of the reveal, until now where during the Nintendo Direct presentation, the company finally revealed that the game will be released on the 27th of October, 2017.
Together with the announcement of the release date, Nintendo also released a new trailer for the game that shows off more of what we can expect. Super Mario Odyssey is definitely not your typical Super Mario game, and seems to combine more “real world” elements compared to before, although for the most part it is still Mario.
It also appears that there will be new mechanics, like how Mario can use hit hat to attack enemies, or how he can throw his hat onto objects or characters to “possess” them. So far initial impressions have been great, so mark down the 27th of October on your calendars if this sounds like a game you wouldn’t mind getting.
