However it seems that in recent times, there has been a resurgence in the demand for vinyl records, so much so that we’re starting to see companies starting to produce new turntable models. In fact according to a report from Nikkei, it seems that Sony wants to capitalize on this resurgence as they have announced that they will start producing vinyl records again.
The last time Sony Music produced vinyl domestically in Japan was back in 1989, so it looks like almost 30 years later they will be kicking off production once again. Sony Music has been working towards this as back in February, the company installed record cutting equipment at a Tokyo recording studio that enables them to produce the masters that the vinyls will copy from.
Like we said, there seems to be a surge in popularity in vinyl in recent times, to the point where according to a report from last year, vinyl sales in the UK actually managed to top digital album downloads which is fascinating.
