Unlike Google Glass, Snap’s Spectacles appear to be slightly more well-received, at least by the general public who haven’t reacted quite so violently to the idea of that someone could be recording them without their knowledge. This success is also why we’re not 100% surprised to hear that second-gen pair could be in the works.
In a report from TechCrunch, they have heard from their sources that apparently Snap has a second-gen pair of Spectacles in the works that will be an upgrade over the current pair. This upgrade will come in the form of augmented reality which will no doubt improve upon the capabilities and functionality of the device.
For those unfamiliar, the current pair of Spectacles basically allows the wearer to take photos and videos, and given that Snap’s Snapchat app already offers up augmented reality features, we guess it was only a matter of time before it was integrated into the wearable. However as TechCrunch notes, the second-gen pair of Spectacles is a very closely guarded secret within Snap itself, where only a few employees are aware of the details.
Exactly when these new version will be launched remains to be seen, but this rumor isn’t that far from the truth as back in May, Mashable discovered a patent filed in 2015 that detailed a similar device, so it looks like it could be a matter of when, and not if.
