When the Nintendo Switch was officially announced, the trailer showed off a person playing what appeared to be Bethesda’s Skyrim on the console. There was a bit of back and forth about whether the game would be available for the platform, with Bethesda ultimately confirming that yes, Skyrim would be coming to the Switch.
The good news is that during Bethesda’s E3 2017 presentation, the company has officially revealed the game and it sounds pretty exciting. According to the game’s description in its trailer, “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch includes all-new gameplay features like motion controls for combat and lockpicking, outfits and gear from The Legend of Zelda. Take down enemies with the Master Sword, protect yourself with the Hylian Shield or look heroic in the Champion’s Tunic. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch also includes all official add-ons: Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn.”
Now Skyrim itself was a pretty fun and amazing game, but it looks like Bethesda is taking things to the next level with the Switch as it will utilize the console’s Joy-Cons and motion controls. Whether or not this will be more efficient than using regular controls or if it will just end up being a novelty remains to be seen, but at least the option is there. There is also support for amiibo figurines which will grant players additional loot.
It is unclear if this version of Skyrim will be the Special Edition in which there are updated graphics, or if we are looking at the original version of Skyrim with some updated features. There is still no official word on a release date but Amazon has listed it for the 29th of December, 2017 which seems like a placeholder date.
