If you’re looking forward to such devices, Qualcomm might have something for you come summer 2018. Announced during MWC Shanghai, Qualcomm has unveiled new fingerprint scanning technology which is basically a newer and more advanced version of their previous solution which was known as Sense ID.
Dubbed the Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors, these new sensors from Qualcomm will be capable of scanning through display, glass, and metal, meaning that smartphone OEMs looking for an embedded solution can turn to Qualcomm for an answer. Unlike more traditional capacitive scanners, Qualcomm’s scanners will rely on ultrasonics which is how it is capable of scanning through your smartphone’s display.
On top of that, these sensors will also be capable of measuring your heartbeat and blood flow. Like we said, OEMs have been trying to get something similar to this up and running. We’ve heard rumors that Samsung has been struggling to get the technology to work on their devices, and we’ve also heard how Apple is said to incorporate something similar in the iPhone 8 as well.
