T-Mobile and Sprint’s merger story has been a tale of “will they, won’t they” for many, many years. Sprint has long been interested in merging with its rival but efforts have gone in vain every time for one reason or another. It appears that the companies might be closer to a merger this time around. According to a new report, plans for the merger between T-Mobile and Sprint are now being prepared by Deutsche Tekelom, the parent company of T-Mobile in the United States.
It was first reported last month that informal talks concerning a merger had begun yet again between the two carriers. SoftBank, Sprint’s parent company, has been open to this idea which is why the talks have resumed once again.
German publication Handelsblatt reports that Deutsche Telekom has started to prepare plans to merger T-Mobile and Sprint. Deutsche Telekom reportedly wants an all-stock deal which will enable it to retain managerial control of the resulting entity. DT is said to be interested in keeping as much of T-Mobile’s existing market strategy as possible after the merger.
Despite this promising report, nothing has been officially confirmed as yet by either company, so a T-Mobile and Sprint merger is far from confirmed at this point in time.
