In a post on NeoGAF, this has been broken down further and we have a comparison of how other consoles are doing. For example speaking in terms of modern consoles, Sony’s PS4 took 49 weeks to hit 1 million in Japan, versus the Switch which took 17 weeks. Other Nintendo consoles like the DS took 4 weeks, the 3DS 13 weeks, the GameCube 17 weeks, the N65 29 weeks, and the Wii U 34 weeks, while the original Wii only took 6 weeks.
It has also been revealed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the most popular game for the Switch with 501,614 copies sold in Japan, followed by 460,480 copies of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Other popular titles include 1-2 Switch which sold 200,807 units, ARMS which managed 154,845 units which is impressive given that it was only released a couple of weeks ago, and Bomberman R which has sold 992,112 units.
If you notice Microsoft’s consoles are not listed because if you recall, Microsoft’s attempt at launching the Xbox One in Japan has not proven to be so successful. We’re not sure what the figures are now, but at one point in time, Microsoft only managed to sell 100 units in a week. Presumably that has changed by now and maybe Microsoft will do better with the Xbox One X.
