It was an odd move to make, although a follow-up rumor from Eurogamer suggested that the reason was because Nintendo was getting ready to launch a successor in the form of the SNES Mini. There were event hints of the console’s existence which ultimately proved to be true as Nintendo has officially announced the SNES Classic Edition.
The console will be officially launched on the 29th of September and will come pre-loaded with 21 games, one of which is a game that Nintendo has never released in the past and that is Star Fox 2. In addition to Star Fox 2, the other games that will be include are Contra III: The Alien Wars, Donkey Kong Country, EarthBound, Final Fantasy III, F-ZERO, Kirby Super Star, Kirby’s Dream Course, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mega Man X,Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out!!, and Yoshi’s Island.
The console will also be launched with two controllers which makes it perfect for playing multiplayer games right out of the box. The SNES Classic Edition will also be priced at $80.
