Nintendo Promises To Make More SNES Classic Edition Units

One of the problems with the NES Classic Edition wasn’t so much the features, the games, or its functionality. It was more to do with the fact that it was almost impossible to get your hands on a unit despite Nintendo’s best efforts, leading to massively hiked up prices on third-party websites such as eBay.

However this is something that Nintendo plans on addressing with the recently announced SNES Classic Edition. According to a statement made to Polygon, Nintendo promised that they will be producing more units of the SNES Classic Edition compared to the NES Classic Edition, although there were no exact figures provided.

The statement reads, “We aren’t providing specific numbers, but we will produce significantly more units of Super NES Classic Edition than we did of NES Classic Edition.” However the question isn’t really how many units will be produced, but rather how long production is expected to run. The NES Classic Edition had a limited production run and it looks like the SNES Classic Edition will be in a similar position.

Nintendo told Polygon that production of the console will run “from Sept. 29 until the end of calendar year 2017.” As to what happens after that, Nintendo said, “At this time, we have nothing to announce regarding any possible shipments beyond this year.” Either way the SNES Classic Edition will be out on the 29th of September later this year for $80, so definitely don’t hesitate to pre-order it if you don’t want to miss out on it.
