BioWare Unveils New Sci-Fi Gaming IP ‘Anthem’

As far as sci-fi RPGs are concerned, BioWare’s Mass Effect is probably one of the bigger names out there. However it is safe to say that based on the feedback that they’ve gotten with regards to Mass Effect: Andromeda, things did not really go the way the company had hoped, so much so that last we heard, BioWare apparently put development on future Mass Effect titles on hold.

However it seems that despite those rumors, BioWare isn’t quite done the sci-fi RPG genre just yet. During E3 2017, the company took the wraps off a brand new IP in the form of “Anthem”. The game is being developed by BioWare Edmonton, which for those unfamiliar was the studio behind the original Mass Effect trilogy, so hopefully they’ll be able to bring some of that magic over onto Anthem.

Details about the game are a bit scarce at the moment, but it has been hailed as an action-adventure game and will feature a “live service”, similar to how Bungie runs its Destiny games. In fact some have compared Anthem as being a mixture of both Mass Effect and Destiny, which at least on the surface seems to be a pretty apt description.

The game will allow up to four players to play together as a team and there will be armor such as exosuits that players can customize with gear they earn. These suits will allow players to fly, leap, and climb the open world. No word on when it will be released, but gamers can check out the gameplay trailer in the video above if they are curious.
