There’s already a desktop tool available for Google Drive on PC and Mac. However, it’s limited in the functionality that it offers in that it only monitors one folder and backs up files whenever that folder is updated. Google is now making this tool much better by introducing what it calls Backup and Sync. This feature will enable Drive to function as a much more effective backup and sync tool for desktop computers.
Backup and Sync is the latest version of Google Drive for Mac and PC which happens to be integrated with the Google Photos desktop uploader.
It will enable users to back up files and photos from their computers so that they can be accessible from anywhere. The updated tool will adhere to any current Drive for Mac/PC setting that users have selected but it can be changed at will.
Google is going to introduce the Backup and Sync feature by releasing a new app of the same name. The app is going to be released later this month, on June 28th to be precise. The app will be replacing the standard Google Drive and the Google Photos Backup app.
Google recommends that consumers should download this app once it becomes available while it cautions that business users should continue using the current Drive app until it comes out with a separate solution for them.
