This is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that Amazon could one day have a drone fulfilment center where it would basically house a hive of drones that would fly out and make deliveries within an area, and this is exactly what the company has patented in a recently discovered patent.
As you can see in the diagram above, it shows how Amazon could construct a building in which drones could fly in and out when they are making deliveries and when they are returning. The patent also describes how it could house robots that will help the humans working in the fulfilment center at filling orders and fetching items.
To prevent rogue drones from flying in, Amazon’s patent also talks about how the landing platforms are locked with doors that can authenticate Amazon’s own drones via wireless communication. Now given that this is a patent we’re not sure if it will ever see the light of day, but assuming drone delivery takes off, it actually makes sense for such a center to exist.
