Given that every home is laid out differently, if you’re someone who uses Airbnb a lot when you travel, you’re probably aware that where one host might keep certain things won’t necessarily be the same with another, especially if you’re in a foreign country where they speak a different language.
However designer Isil Uzum has cooked up a concept for Airbnb’s app (via Cult of Mac) where he imagines what Airbnb’s app could look like should they integrate it with Apple’s ARKit. For those unfamiliar, ARKit was announced at WWDC 2017 earlier this month and is basically Apple’s official foray into augmented reality (AR), a tech in which Apple’s CEO has constantly waxed poetic about.
Basically as you can see in the screenshot above, with ARKit, guests can use the app to navigate the host’s home and pointing their phone around the room, it will show the guest where certain things are and maybe how to operate them. Given that some Airbnb hosts are completely hands-off and aren’t around to greet guests and show them around, such a feature would no doubt come in handy.
Unfortunately Uzum’s creation is merely a concept of what ARKit could be used for, and how it could improve on the Airbnb experience. Whether or not Airbnb will consider Uzum’s suggestion seriously or if they already have something similar in the works is anyone’s guess, but we would totally be up for it.
