Twitter’s deal with NFL for its Thursday Night Football games ended this year. Amazon is now streaming those games but the microblogging network has inked another deal with the NFL. While the new deal does feature live video it doesn’t include any games.
The NFL explains that Twitter is going to stream official NFL video as well as other content to fans the entire year. The live video content also includes a new 30 minute digital show which is going to air on Twitter five nights every week during the football season.
Hosting duties will be performed by NFL Network personalities and the show is going to focus on “breaking news, game highlights, key storylines, fantasy projections, team power rankings, pre-game updates,” and more, according to the NFL.
The live pre-game coverage is going to include broadcasts on Periscope of sideline interviews and play warm-ups. This will be a new way that the organization provides fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the games.
NFL highlights, news and analysis as well as historical content is going to be streamed live on Twitter as well, all of which is going to be tagged with the #TBT or Throwback Thursday hashtag.
“We have every expectation that the new daily live show, produced by NFL Network and featuring some of our top analysts, will quickly become some of the most popular programming on Twitter,” said Brian Rolapp, chief media and business officer for the NFL.
