Samsung’s Tizen platform is typically viewed as a mobile operating system that is an alternative to iOs and Android devices out there, like the recently launched Samsung Z4. However it seems that Samsung has bigger plans for Tizen in the future, like maybe using it to power smart home appliances and connected devices.
According to a report from PCWorld, this version of Tizen is said to be known as Tizen RT and is apparently a slimmed down version of the current build of Tizen, which has been used in Samsung’s mobile devices and Samsung TVs. This particular build of Tizen could eventually be used to power things like your vacuum cleaner, robots, washing machines, and so on.
The company is expected to share details like its architecture and future release schedule at the Tizen Developers Conference which will be held in San Francisco later today. Whether or not Tizen will catch on as an operating system of choice for home appliances remains to be seen, but given that Samsung has many fingers in the pots, we suppose at the very least it will be used to power the company’s products.
Either way we’ll have to wait and see what Samsung has in store for us, so check back with us later for the details.
