The OnePlus 5 is expected to be announced this coming summer and given that this is a flagship smartphone we’re talking about, there’s a good chance that it will come equipped with Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 835 chipset. However there is more to a phone than just the chipset, and it seems that whatever OnePlus has done, they’ve done it pretty well.

In a Geekbench score obtained by GSMArena, the alleged scores of the OnePlus 5 have surfaced and based on the scores, it seems to have outdone the Samsung Galaxy S8+ which is regarded by many to be the top Android smartphone of 2017 so far. The handset scored 1,963 points in the single-core test and 6,687 on the multi-core test.

This is versus the Galaxy S8+ which scored 1,929 on the single-core test and 6,375 on the multi-core test. Granted the difference is marginal but the fact that the handset managed to edge out the Galaxy S8+ is pretty telling. However we should note that benchmark scores don’t necessarily tell the whole story.

There are many factors as to what makes a smartphone great and while using the latest and greatest chipset is one of them, it shouldn’t be the only area to look at.
