When Microsoft confirmed its next event which takes place in Shanghai on May 23rd, many speculated that we might finally see the company unveil the Surface Pro 5. However, if the boss of all things Surface at Microsoft is believed, and he really is someone who you should believe in these matters, there is “no such thing” as the Surface Pro 5.
Panos Panay, the Surface boss at Microsoft, has set the record straight. In an interview with CNET, he said that Microsoft is not going to release a new model of the Surface Pro until there “an experiential change that makes a huge difference in product line.”
What that means is that Microsoft is not going to release a new model of the Surface Pro just for the sake of releasing a new model. The company wants there to be a more meaningful change in the product instead of just updated processors and minor changes like battery life improvements.
As if it wasn’t already clear enough that there’s not going to be a new Surface Pro device at the May 23rd event, he goes on to say that “there’s no such thing as the Surface Pro 5.” You don’t need any more proof now, do you?
So what is Microsoft going to announce at its event in Shanghai on May 23rd? We’ll just have to wait and see.
