UberPOOL is a great feature that lets you catch an Uber with other people who are going in the same general direction at a cost cheaper than what it would cost to go there in an Uber all by yourself. The ride-sharing company today announced that it’s adding a new feature to UberPOOL which is going to make trips faster for both drivers and passengers.
UberPOOL riders will now receive suggestions about drop-off locations in the app while they’re en route. This will allow them to know whether they should just hop out of a car and walk a couple of blocks instead of waiting in traffic.
Uber says that the alternate drop-off points will be based on data that’s algorithmically generated on the user’s route and real-time traffic information. The pop-up notification about the suggested location will also inform users how much time they will save if they decide to take the option.
This feature builds off Uber’s success in New York City which has shown that sometimes it’s better to hop out of the car at the corner and walk to your destination instead of sitting for one extra loop in the car which obviously causes unnecessary delays for everyone.
Uber is piloting this feature for POOL rides in DC, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. If the test goes well it may decide to roll out this feature in other cities where it offers the carpooling service.
