Over the past couple of months, we’ve been treated to a fair number of iPhone-related leaks. Earlier leaks have suggested that the iPhone 8 could move Touch ID to the rear of the phone, although subsequent leaks and renderings have since suggested that will not be the case, or will it?
In the last image uploaded onto Slashleaks (via 9to5Mac), it shows an alleged drawing of the iPhone 8 and as you can see, it clearly shows that there is a cut out below the Apple logo in which it is presumed that is where the fingerprint sensor will be going. This is versus the rumors which have suggested that Apple could be going for an embedded sensor.
That being said, we should point out that it is hard to verify if the drawing we see is the real deal to begin with, since it probably wouldn’t be too hard to photoshop something like that. An alternative possibility is that the leak we are seeing could be based on an older design, such as an earlier prototype in which Apple was toying with the idea of a rear-facing Touch ID sensor.
In any case public opinion seems to be that a rear-facing sensor wouldn’t really be the best design, as we have seen from the backlash from Samsung’s decision for the Galaxy S8. Either way we won’t know until the phone is official so do take it with a grain of salt for now.
