Lyft Finally Launches A Standalone Driver App

When it comes to ride-hailing services, the main contenders are pretty much between Uber and Lyft. Which service you choose will probably depend on how much is being charged, and how long you might have to wait for either car to arrive. However on the driver side of things, Uber has an advantage of having a standalone app for its drivers.

However it seems that Lyft has decided to close that gap by finally launchng its own standalone driver app. Dubbed “Lyft Driver”, this is an app for iOS and Android devices that helps drivers conduct their business more efficiently. Prior to this drivers and riders used the same app, where drivers could activate a driver mode within the app itself.

According to the company, this is suppose benefit both drivers and riders. In a post on its FAQ section, Lyft writes, “For instance, if you only use Lyft for driving, we want to give you a driver-tailored experience, which also saves valuable storage space on your device. The same goes for Lyft riders.”

As Business Insider points out, the driver-specific app will also allow Lyft to roll out and introduce new driver-only features at a faster pace that could help give it a leg up over the competition. Ultimately this should not affect the end user but perhaps with a more dedicated app for drivers, it could convince more drivers to start driving for Lyft as well.
