It seems that Samsung and Microsoft share a similar vision in which our smartphones are apparently so powerful that they can essentially be turned into desktop computers. Microsoft tried this with Windows Continuum and Samsung has attempted this with the DeX that was launched with the Galaxy S8/S8+.
Now both systems are separate of each other but it seems that maybe the DeX isn’t as complicated as we thought because in a video posted onto YouTube by “gazcart”, it shows how the Lumia 950 that was launched in 2015 can actually work with the DeX, which was previously thought to be an exclusive to the Galaxy S8 handsets.
We’re not sure if the uploader made any changes or tweaks to get it to work, but basically in the video you see him plug in the Galaxy S8 before swapping it out with the Lumia 950, and from what we can tell it works. There is a chance it could be a fake, but with there being a Galaxy S8 Microsoft Edition, perhaps the collaboration ran a bit deeper than we thought, even though there was no promotion surrounding this possible compatibility.
In any case we’re not sure how many Lumia 950 owners out there have bought a Galaxy S8 and a DeX who might want to try it out, but it is still rather interesting all the same.
