If you think that the headphone jack still has its place in today’s tech world, then you were probably disappointed by the actions of quite a few handset manufacturers such as Apple who decided to drop the port. Unfortunately if you are a fan of HTC, it seems that the company could also be following suit for the upcoming HTC U 11 smartphone.
In a tweet by @LlabTooFeR, it has been suggested that the HTC U 11 will not be sporting a headphone jack in the phone. Instead it seems that HTC will be offering up an adapter instead. The handset is also said to use the USB-C port for charging and audio, so users will be given a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter if they wish to continue using their headphones.

There will be a pair of bundled headphones that will use the USB-C connection similar to the ones bundled with the HTC U Ultra, so there’s always that option if you don’t want to shop for new earbuds or rely on the adapter. There is the argument that using interfaces like USB-C/Lightning will provide up a higher-quality listening experience, but since USB-C/Lightning headphones aren’t quite as ubiquitous, at the moment it seems more annoying than useful.
That being said, the recently leaked specs of the HTC U 11 did not mention anything about audio so take it with a grain of salt for now. The handset will be revealed on the 16th of May, so check back with us then for the details.
