US Homebuilder To Make HomeKit Standard In New Homes

We’re sure that there is a future that Apple envisions in which its HomeKit will become the standard platform in which smart home appliances and gadgets are integrated with. While that probably won’t be happening anytime soon, Apple has scored something of a coup when US homebuilder Brookfield Residential announced that HomeKit will become a standard for new homes.

This will apply to the company’s new southern California communities and will be starting with the Delano neighborhood in Irvine’s Eastwood Village. What this means is that homes will come kitted out with smart appliances that are HomeKit compatible, so that when users won’t need to search for their own accessories.

This will include Lutron Caseta lights, the Honeywell Lyric T6 thermostat, the Schlage Sense smart deadbolt, and the Ubiquiti Wireless Access Point. Newer HomeKit accessories are expected to be added eventually as they come along. As AppleInsider points out, Brookfield won’t be the first to offer HomeKit in homes, but one of the main differences is that instead of offering them as an upgrade, they’ll be offered as a standard.

No doubt this is pretty good news for Apple and its HomeKit platform, although we guess as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t force it to drink.
