At its I/O 2017 developers conference today, Google announced that it’s adding a handful of new features to Google Assistant. The company also confirmed reports that Assistant will be making its way to the iPhone as a standalone app. Google has confirmed today that Google Assistant is being launched for iPhones as a separate app.
Users can schedule new calendar appointments and create reminders using Google Assistant on Google Home starting today. Support for more than 70 smart home partners means that Google Assistant can now control a wide variety of smart connected devices. It’s also possible to type your query to Google Assistant on smartphones starting today.
In the coming months, Assistant will be able to connect the user to mobile phones or landlines in the United States and Canada for free. No setup, phone or additional app will be required for this feature.
Google Home is getting Bluetooth support so that it can be used to play audio from any mobile device. Visual responses from Assistant on TVs will be added later this year as well. This way, Assistant answers will be displayed on the big screen when a Chromecast is plugged in.
Google Assistant is making its way to the iPhone today. It’s going to be available for iPhones running on iOS 9.1 and up. The app will be available later today from the App Store.
The AI-powered smart assistant from Google is soon going to be rolled out to eligible Android smartphones in Brazilian Portuguese, French, German and Japanese. It will have support for Italian, Korean, and Spanish by the end of this year.
